Fireworks sales rise in Iowa amid city limits and state licenses
Fireworks sales boomed during the 2020 pandemic and continue to climb this year despite city restrictions. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has issued 583 licenses for sales at tents and stores in Iowa, up from 553 in 2020. In Cedar Rapids and Iowa City licenses are scarce, with three vendors in Cedar Rapids and none in Iowa City. Iowa Fireworks Company operates tents in Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha, reporting strong demand and an uptick in customers, including many returning from last year.
