Cedar Rapids Reopens Bridges and Flood Recovery Efforts
The 16th Avenue Bridge over the Cedar River and several cross streets reopened on Wednesday as Cedar Rapids accelerates flood recovery. J Street SW over Prairie Creek regained a satisfactory rating while parts of Hawkeye Downs Road SW remain closed for railroad work and Otis Road SE stays largely closed. The city reports 90 percent mail delivery is back to normal though the downtown post office remains closed for flood relief, with alternative pickup sites listed. The Cedar Rapids Recovery and Reinvestment Coordination Team to coordinate flood recovery and reinvestment has been formed with city, chamber, neighborhoods, United Way, and other partners. The city’s Human Resources Department is accepting applications for more than 30 city jobs with deadlines extended by a week due to flood recovery, and reapplication details are provided.
