Explosives Truck Crash Stuns Town Near Chicago
A tractor trailer loaded with military explosives and torpedo warheads collided with a merchandise truck on U.S. Route 30 near a town about 40 miles southwest of Chicago. No one was hurt. Norway Farmhand Charged With Wreck Plot On City of San Francisco
Marvin Leo Ross a 36 year old farmhand from Norway Iowa was arrested by FBI agents on a federal train wreck statute charge. He was arraigned before U S Commissioner Charles Benesh waived preliminary hearing and bound over to the grand jury with bond set at 5000 dollars. Ross indicated in court he would plead guilty. He reportedly placed a railroad crosstie on the Chicago and North Western tracks near Norway on June 13 aiming to disrupt an interstate train. The City of San Francisco struck the tie at about 1045 PM with speed about 88 mph causing an immediate stop for inspection. no derailment occurred. Ross born near Waubeek and living on Glenn Davis farm near Norway. He said he did not know why he did it and asked reporters about the act. His father William Henry Ross and their Waubeek residence are noted.
