Two Bandits Rob Dubuque Theater of 65 Dollars

Two youths about 23 or 24 robbed the Varsity Theater in Dubuque after buying tickets at 9:20 p.m. They returned to the lobby, produced a gun, and demanded cash, escaping with $65 in a green late model car. Witnesses described the vehicle and license plates as Polk county. The State Patrol linked the car to a Des Moines theft on June 1.

Army OKs Allamakee Flood Control Project

The Army engineers board approved an Upper Iowa river flood control plan in Allamakee County Iowa. The proposal calls for deepening and widening a four mile channel above the river mouth with no dams. Estimated cost is 987200 dollars with local funds about 70000 dollars. Annual flood damage is placed at 100000 dollars mainly to farm land.

Services Friday for Peter Peterson 91

Funeral services for Peter Edwin Peterson 91 will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Oelwein Methodist church. A retired barber who lived many years in West Union died at 10 30 a.m. Tuesday at his home. Survived by daughter Mildred of Oelwein and son Chris of West Union he was a member of the West Union Odd Fellows lodge.

New Laws Cut Young Drivers Access In Iowa

Des Moines AP reports new laws effective July 4 limit school driving permits for youths. After 6 p.m. drivers must be with a licensed adult except for direct routes to school. Permits require school board affidavits for new applicants and non nearby students face stricter limits. Duplicate violations revoke permits and delay licensing until sixteenth birthday plus one year.

Wood Center alumni persist after school sale

Alumni of the Wood Center school near Edgewood met at the property as the building will be sold and the yard returned to farm land. They planned a picnic for next year, with Harold Bissell elected president and Mrs. Roy Culbertson named secretary treasurer.

Radiation Researchers Elect Society Officers

The Radiation Research Society held its first independent national meeting in Iowa City with visits to University of Iowa facilities and the Veterans Hospital isotope lab. G Failla of Columbia University was elected president, H J Curtis of Brookhaven named vice president, Abraham Edelmann of Brookhaven as secretary, and Harvey Patt of Argonne as treasurer.

Blaze Damages New Home in Tipton Garage Fire

A blaze heavily damaged a new dwelling owned by Roger M. Bolton in Tipton. The fire started in the garage and spread through the west part of the house to the attic before Tipton Fire Department crews extinguished it.

Liquor Warehouse Site Bought in Des Moines

Upper Iowa Adds Two Courses to Curricula

Upper Iowa university will add art and physical education for women to its regular curricula for the 1953 54 school year. The new course will be taught by Miss Roberta Glenn of Ellinwood Kansas, previously at Northwest Missouri State College. Miss Frances Heusinkveld of Hull will teach piano and theory, succeeding Miss Joyce Aydelotte who resigned.

Harry W. Cave Dies Native of Fayette

Harry W. Cave, 63, dean emeritus of the Oklahoma A and M college dairy department, died Tuesday. Born in Fayette Iowa, he attended Ames high school and graduated from Iowa State College in 1914. He was a past president of the American Dairy Science Association and known at Iowa dairy shows as a judge and for the judging streams he trained.
