The U S House restored 100 million dollars for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting after a near budget cut. Supporters rallied behind PBS programs including Sesame Street Postcards From Buster and The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer, showing political backing for public broadcasting.
Iowa representatives split on funding for PBS with Republicans Leach Latham Nussle King backing or opposing. Leach argued public broadcasting improves civility and arts appreciation, while the Public Broadcasting Service pressured to rescind the proposed cut.
