Coralville organizers hire KUD International to coordinate design engineering and construction for the $180 million indoor rainforest project. The firm will advise the board and staff as donors are sought to cover about $90 million of the cost, with private backing emphasized.
Des Moines developer Ted Townsend launched a project along Interstate 80 in Coralville with a 30 acre site bought for 180 million and a 4.5 acre artificial rain forest. Funding includes 50 million from the U S Department of Energy and 27 million from Coralville plus 10 million from Townsend. Plans call for a 20 million Vision lown grant.
The plan outlines work on planning and securing financing this year, site preparation to begin, construction to start in 18 months, with an opening targeted for early 2009.
