Cedar Rapids area gears up for the 17th annual Derby with 84 hopeful entrants awaiting cars. Larry Pookes says the final pre Derby meeting is Monday at 7 30 p m at Central YMCA and heat sponsors deadline is next Sunday.

Mercy Hospital radiologic technology grads to total seven
Seven students from Mercy Hospital School of Radiologic Technology will graduate this afternoon. The graduates are Kathy Hasapopoulos Clear Lake Jaxine Miller Center Point Cathy Mowrey Estherville Kimberly Jo Neiber Monona Jill Rosencrans Anamosa and Letha Sylvester Hedrick. Dr Gary Weinman Cedar Rapids physician and former Mercy Trauma Center staff will give the commencement address at 1 30 p.m. in the Mercy Hospital Chapel. ON THIS DATE in 1942 the Dutch royal family exiled by war arrived in the United States to establish temporary residence.

The East Central Regional Library board approved a 1979 80 budget of 182 829 to serve 60 plus libraries in 10 counties starting July 1. More than 70 percent of the rise funds direct services while administrative costs rise 96. Major boosts fund materials access Cedar Rapids resource center inter library loans and staff training and workshops for Benton Cedar Clinton Iowa Jackson Johnson Jones Linn Tama Poweshiek counties.
