Gov. Robert Ray named Nolden Gentry to a three year term on the Iowa Commission for the Blind replacing Elwyn Hemken. Gentry a Des Moines attorney and former Des Moines School Board member is 41 and chaired the 1978 Ad Hoc Committee on the Blind. Also named to the Council on Social Services was Joan Lipsky a Cedar Rapids resident and former Iowa House member with a six year term.
Avella High School alumni from 1927 to 1959 gathered in a Hilton Hotel ballroom for a reunion and a $30,000 tab, with about 1,200 attendees speculating on the donor's identity while the mystery man planned to attend as a fellow classmate.
