In Linn County Iowa Samuel Elijah Goodwin 24 was given a 25 year mandatory minimum of a 50 year max sentence for child endangerment resulting in death after authorities say he repeatedly threw slammed and neglected infant Elijah during overnight hours of April 3 and 4 2021 Caitlyn Ruiz the baby's mother urged a life in prison as justice Linn County Attorney Nick Maybanks noted the judge had discretion to impose a lengthy term and Goodwin showed remorse while admitting to acts of unreasonable force and improper care before the court a Marion home was the scene of the tragedy and the infant died in a bouncer during the early hours of April 4 2021
