Ely Town grows with new homes and a young demographic

Ely population has risen to about 1,600 from 1,149 in 2000 as homes spread across the area and new businesses open. Holly and Dave Rasmussen moved from Cedar Rapids to open Jumping Bean coffee shop, citing Ely’s young community and strong school district. Local resident Ron Cleppe notes growth has slowed quiet streets, but traffic has increased, transforming Ely into a “big town.”
