President signs bill letting defendants go without bond
President Sobnaon signed a measure allowing release without bond for some defendants awaiting federal trial. He said the law eliminates needless cruelty and treats defendants as individuals, not dollar signs. It permits release to a lawyer or other person, with possible restricted freedom or postbond options, and credits time served toward sentences.
