A 19 year old, Mike V. Sullivan of Reynolds avenue SW, fled from Special Officer Lynn Weigle at the Red Barn beer scene and was fined 50 dollars with a 30 day suspended sentence for possessing beer as a minor and resisting an officer. Charles Kramer, 19, of First avenue NW, faced resisting an officer charge after aiding the escape and posted 110 dollar bond. Weigle, a Collins Radio Co. employee, was hired by the Veterans Public Safety Unit.
Berlin AP report quotes Walter Ulbricht, East German communist leader, stating he wants no separate peace treaty with the Soviet Union. He asserts alignment with Moscow while opposing a bilateral pact that excludes the Allies.
Des Moines area deputies resumed the search for Kenneth Walvatne's nine month old lion Monday after a Sunday night pause. An officer said the animal knocked down a horse but later reports corrected it to a Shetland pony. The search ended for the night around 10:30 p.m. with the lion still at large. Walvatne said the lion escaped about 8 p.m. Sunday and officers once surrounded a field where it was believed to hide. A tranquilizer gun was requested but not delivered.
About 120 Negro demonstrators and over 300 segregationists faced off on a city street as police kept the two groups apart. Attorneys for the Negroes delivered copies of a federal court petition to reporters before presenting it to Judge Bryan Simpson, citing a prior ruling that local authorities could not prohibit night marches and accusing the governor of violating the court order by banning demonstrations.

Mabel Lenton 63 widow of Earl Lenton died Sunday after a long illness. Born December 16 1900 in Marengo she lived there until 1944 then moved to Cedar Rapids. Survived by daughter Mrs Marvin Horwedel Cedar Rapids son Wayne Palo six grandchildren one great grandchild three sisters and three brothers many relatives. Memorial services Tuesday 1:30 p.m. at Kuba funeral home burial at Pleasant Hill cemetery Blairsville. Friends may call at the funeral home.
Lydia Drumbarger 86 of Cedar Rapids widow of Elmer Drumbarger died Saturday. Born August 26 1878 in New York she married July 4 1895 at Stone City. Survived by daughter in law Mrs D A Reid Cedar Rapids six grandchildren ten great grandchildren and three brothers Tom Frasher Martelle John Frasher Cedar Rapids Edward Frasher Knoxville. Two sons George and Joseph preceded her in death. Services Tuesday at 9 30 a.m. at St Joseph Church Stone City Burial Wilcox Cemetery Viola McNamara Funeral Home Anamosa in charge.
Harriette M- Ridgeway widow of Merlin Ridgeway and former Cedar Rapids resident died Saturday in El Paso Texas after a long illness. She was born January 6 1901 at Hazel Green. Her husband died June 29 1950. Survived by daughter in law Mrs W J Fitzgerald of El Paso two grandchildren two sisters Mrs George Deering and Mrs H O Flatland of Reeder ND and a brother W L Perley of Cedar Rapids. Memorial services will be announced later. Friends may call at Turner chapel 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Harry Henry Schomberg, 1632 Thirty-second Street NE, a Cedar Rapids resident for 41 years and retired Iowa Manufacturing Co. employee, died Sunday after a long illness. Born November 9, 1884 in Chicago, he married Louise McLeod September 15, 1921 in Valdosta, Georgia. Survived by wife, four daughters Lucille, Harriette, Gertrude, Louise. a son Robert. nine grandchildren. two sisters Florence Oetzes of Chicago and Mrs. Geo Gibson of Ocala, Florida.
