Suspension of Kelsey Sentence Is Revoked

Horace Kelsey a 41 year old inmate alias Douglas Kelly had a six months suspended sentence for wife desertion revoked by Judge Floyd Philbrick after evidence showed he did not support his family. He was jailed in Linn county and had been living near Palo under the name Douglas Kelly.

New York Man Pleads Innocent to Cedar Rapids Larceny

John W. Furlong aged 30 of New York City pled innocent in district court to a larceny charge. He allegedly took a portable radio and a pair of shoes on June 17 from a roommate at a Cedar Rapids hotel.

Johnson 36 of 1302 Ellis Blvd NW pled innocent in justice court to false uttering of a check for 796.26 written March 25 in Walford. bond set at 1000 by Justice Charles Benesh as the check was returned for insufficient funds. Elmer H. Malloy sued John P. Bickel and Frank C. Byers Jr for 114.75 on an alleged account. Two district suits were dismissed on plaintiffs motion Edith Breiholz vs Glen H. Death of W N Northcott Linked to Austin College

Word has been received of the death of W N Northcott at Sherman Texas. He was vice president of Austin College there and earlier in the 1930s promoted work at Cornell College. A Cedar Rapids Y M C A connection and brother of the late John B Northcott are noted. He is survived by his wife and a son in Texas.

Parsons College Receives $10,000 Gift from Howard

Parsons College announced on Thursday an additional $10,000 gift from Hubert Howard, chairman of the National Munitions Board. The Fairfield native and Parsons alumnus has now donated more than $135,000 in total gifts to the college, following a $40,000 gift announced earlier this month.
