Iowa to Stock 550 Lakes with Bass Fingerlings This Year
Iowa Conservation Commission plans stocking of about 550 public and private lakes with two inch largemouth bass fingerlings, including 65,000 for 500 farm ponds and 378,000 for 42 renovated or winter-kill affected lakes. Fingerlings come from Fairport hatchery and a Mount Ayr facility, with fishing expected to improve by 1982. A 30 pound flathead catfish was caught near Palo by Mike Doyle and George Williams. The commission also advances a final rule requiring steel shot for waterfowl hunting in selected counties and refuges, despite earlier vetoes and legislative action. A consumer information note on poison ivy allergy and removal is included.
