Marion area facade grants spark downtown investment
Six Marion building owners secured more than 160000 in Facade Improvement Grants from the Iowa Economic Development Authority after a 2014 survey found half the Main Street area buildings in fair to poor condition. Grants require 25 percent owner match, with the city covering another 25 percent. Owners like Henry Royer and Conrad Ramsey plan or have added tuckpointing doors awnings and seating areas while private investment in Marion since 2013 tops 3.53 million.
