Iowa hospitals weigh suing to force payment levels for Medicaid patients as the program costs rise nationally to 71 billion dollars with states covering 31 billion. In Iowa the federal share is 62.5 percent, down from 62.9 percent last Oct. If a suit succeeds the state could face a 15 million dollar shortfall for its share.
