An eight week old infant survived a two story fall when a babysitter dropped her from a smoky apartment into the waiting hands of former high school basketball player James Harris. Harris said I got some sure hands after the catch. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and rescued the babysitter through a window with a ladder.
Gary Holst, current Benton Community Elementary School principal in Atkins, is named superintendent of the Turkey Valley schools. The district serves Lawler St. Lucas Waucoma Fort Atkinson Protovia and surrounding rural areas in northeast Iowa.

A gunman repossessed car then shot eight people at the General Motors Acceptance Corp. office in Jacksonville Florida before taking his own life. Rescue workers attended the victims as the incident unfolded.
