Armyworm Alert follows mild spring in Iowa cornfields
A Iowa State University entomologist reports early spring kept European corn borer numbers down while warning farmers to watch for armyworm moth invasions. June 11 to 13 saw unusually high moth activity statewide, possibly from far south. Eggs could hatch and threaten corn, pasture and lawn, though immediate spraying is not advised. High temperatures and low humidity may prevent establishment.

Central Iowa Faces Critical Moisture Shortage for Crops
Iowa State University crop specialists report a large central Iowa dry zone spanning Greene, Boone, Story and Hamilton counties with some areas under two inches subsoil moisture. They warn corn needs about one inch of weekly rain for normal yields and that drought could threaten crops if rains do not return soon, while other parts of the state show adequate moisture and potential for normal yields with light additional rainfall.
