Witness Lists 23 as Once in Ranks of Reds
San Francisco testimony before a House subcommittee named 23 Bay Area residents as former Communist Party members. Dr. Jack Patten listed teachers, newspaper writers, physicians, a dentist and lawyers among 50 locals he said joined the party before 1948. He named figures from San Francisco State College, City College, KCBS, and various unions and papers. Continuous remarks noted denial and defense from some named individuals.
