Manchester white-water park draws paddlers and visitors
The Maquoketa River white-water park in Manchester has spurred a local boom with crowds on riverbanks and bystanders. City leaders and business owners tout the project as boosting downtown activity, safety, and extended river use. The Watershed will offer 30 free float tubes this Saturday. The project began with a dam removal and was funded by city and state grants plus private donations, expected to generate about 2 million dollars in local economic activity.

City rolls out flood control plan with 6.5 miles of levees
The master plan for a flood control system secures council approval and outlines eight construction segments from New Bohemia to downtown. It preserves some river frontage for residents while offering buyouts for others and calls for phased work over 10 years with removable flood walls to keep river access open. An open house is planned for July 9 at the Cedar Rapids Public Library as funding from state and federal sources advances.
