BP to suspend quarterly dividend and fund Gulf spill victims
BP will halt its dividend of about 2.6 billion for June and skip the second and third quarters. The firm plans to cut capital spending, raise asset sales to 10 billion over 12 months, and create a 20 billion victims compensation fund from U S assets, with gradual cash payments.

BP chair remarks on small people sparks Gulf Coast anger
In New Orleans, BP chairman Henric Svanberg’s comment that BP cares about the small people triggers strong backlash from Gulf Coast residents. Locals say they are human beings not mere “small people,” while BP defends the remark as a translation slip and emphasizes support for local businesses.
