Cedar Rapids cereal firms begin processing foreign corn
Cedar Rapids cereal manufacturers Penick and Ford and the National Oats company started processing foreign corn in quantity. The first Argentine corn delivery to Penick and Ford and the first South African white corn to the National Oats plant marked a shift as the domestic supply tightens. About 128000 bushels were imported from Superior by the Penick and Ford operation. The Clinton export and other imports indicate growing reliance on foreign kernels amid scarce domestic stocks.
