Governor Ray Says House Tax Plan Not Acceptable
DES MOINES Gov. Robert Ray argues the house tax plan cutting the Iowa individual income tax to 20 percent of the federal rate cannot be shaped into an acceptable measure. The senate and house remain deadlocked over tax revisions as discussions stall. Ray says the senate plan is closer to his own tax relief aims but would still go beyond. He notes the house plan would shift 27 million to other brackets and would raise taxes on low income singles, while his proposal exempts those earning under 5,000 and is more progressive.
