Five-year-old foils burglars with quick actions

Police credit Joshua Pap, 5, of 254 Northview Place NE, with trying to trap two burglars who entered Kathy Jo Johnson’s apartment at 278 Northview Place NE Monday. He wedged foam under a door latch and wrapped rope around a doorknob in hope of locking them in. Two teens, 14 and 15, were later arrested for burglary at Johnson’s home and at Joel Schievle’s residence nearby. About $60 in cash and beer were taken from Johnson’s, with beer, magazines and tapes stolen from Schievle’s. Officers say they may commend the boy for his actions.
