Heavily armed national guardsmen and police patrolled Albuquerque as tensions eased after two days of clashes. About 281 arrests were reported between Monday and Tuesday morning. many jailed were charged with curfew violations. Firebombs and missiles were thrown from cars during the disturbances near the park and University of New Mexico campus.

Legislative leaders tentatively agreed to provide funds and bonding authority to match federal money for a new 25.5 million Veterinarian Medicine building at Town State University. An appropriation of 50 thousand is needed to retire debt during construction 1972 to 1974. Regents seek 6.19 million in bonds to pair with federal funds for the 457,274 square foot facility. Without the 50 thousand and extra bonding, federal funds totaling about 12.7 million could be forfeited. US Senator Jack Miller cited the HEW grant approval of 6.8 million with 5.9 million to come next year. Congress may provide more funds, but a 12.7 million cap is possible.

Two Babies Survive After Multiple Births in Sydney
SYDNEY AP Only two of the nine babies born to Mrs Leonard Brodrick remained alive sixty hours after birth as hospital bulletins reported mixed survival hopes for the surviving boy and girl. Two more babies were still born and two boys and a girl died Sunday night. The surviving infants weighed 12 ounces and about one pound, with ongoing breathing difficulties noted by the Royal Hospital for Women. Doctors said the mother suffered no medical complications. Earlier reports said the babies were two months premature, but hospital bulletins later adjusted the period to twelve weeks.
