A fire at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday damaged a West Side home owned by Igram and Kalell at 1436 L street SW. Peter Otsen’s residence at 1342 Fifth street NW lost attic and roof areas after a closet fire spread, with insurance covering the loss and repairs planned. Fire Chief E P Kohout, handling his first general alarm, ordered a second alarm to control the blaze, aided by an augmented crew. A false alarm at Bever avenue and Twenty-first street SE occurred around 9 p.m., and a separate short circuit fire at First avenue near Thirty-eighth street E caused a minor, contained blaze with wiring in a Leo Conway truck.
