Government notes reshuffle saves eighty three thousand dollars
Cedar Rapids police chief Greg Graham outlined a departmental reorganization to reduce captain slots from seven to five and increase sergeants from 22 to 27 while keeping total sworn officers near 200. The plan adds a civilian animal control manager and eliminates vacant detective and kennel positions, aiming for improved line supervision and an $83,000 annual saving. In Hiawatha, city employees receive a 3.5 percent raise effective July 1 after trimming from 4 percent, with top wages listed for city administrator and department heads. The column credits Gazette government reporter Rick Smith and John Schweitzer and notes the blogger at Gazette Online.
