O'Neill Won't Seek Veto Override on Water Bill
Speaker Thomas O'Neill said if Carter vetoes the $10.2 billion public works bill he will not seek an override, instead returning the measure to committee for redrafting. He noted enough votes to pass but anticipated no override of a potential veto. The bill includes funds for 17 of 18 Carter-criticized water projects and deleted $33 million for the Clinch River reactor, keeping the project alive.
