Bishop F Gerald Ensley of Des Moines warned that vagueness is the era s gravest fault while Dr Chester A Pennington urged Methodists to focus on evangelical redemption rather than purely humanitarian aims. INDEPENDENCE The Independence school board hired three new teachers including Teresa Stasi and Channing Hall while accepting two resignations Jim Berhow and Anne Elliott. The board reviewed sprinkler system bids from 16 000 to 29 000 for Washington Emerson Lincoln and Lincoln annex schools. Plans for a traffic signal at First Street West and Ninth Avenue were approved after a talk with Police Chief Henry Funk. They announced plans to advertise sale of residential lots on the old football field.

Funeral for Cresco and Norway residents set Thursday
Obed of Cresco Kenneth of Norway and Oliver Jr of Des Moines announce the birth of a daughter Mrs Lee Pow of Norway. Toledo educator Harry Heitland dies at 54
Harry B. Heitland of Toledo, 54, longtime educator and administrator, died Tuesday in a Waterloo hospital after two weeks with kidney illness. He taught and led schools in Whitten, Allison, Bristow, Dinsdale, and Tama County before moving to Toledo in 1941 to work with D. C. Heath. He is survived by his wife Vivian, a daughter Ann Rae, his father Henry, and three brothers and sisters. Funeral Friday at 2 p.m. in the local Methodist church. Burial at Woodlawn.

Gas Masks Needed at Oelwein Swim Pool
Firemen wore gas masks after opening the bathhouse at the Oelwein pool Tuesday morning as a cloud of chlorine gas escaped from a leaking compressor. The department shut the compressor off and sodium ash was used to neutralize the chlorine in the pool area.
