Tipton Board Debates Lunchroom Supervision and Aide Hiring
Tipton Community School Board clashed over who should supervise the lunchroom. A motion to hire three noon aides at 1% hours daily at 2.50 an hour failed for lack of a second. Administrators argued teachers are contractually due a lunch period, while others urged aides to cover supervision. The decision may be reconsidered when an absent member returns.

School board to consider revised grading change for next year
Seventh and eighth graders were polled about a new S and U grading system replacing the A to F scale. Most negative views came from eighth graders used to the old system. Sixty favored the new method, 38 the old, 25 had no opinion. Critics warned the system could let average students slide to a U and discourage high achievers. Superintendent Addis cautioned no perfect system exists and aims to delay labeling until maturity. The board plans early September discussions with faculty and may hear parental input before finalizing. Also approved a $17,345 insurance bid for a three-year liability program and hired three new teachers for 1978-79.
