Gary Wangen announced six Special Days during the Central branch YMCA youth sign-up week for ages 7 to 17. Summer registration starts Monday at 9 a.m. with first-come, first-served classes, daily activities, and several themed days including Aquatic Day and Gymnastics Day.
In Arkansas, veteran Sen. John L. McClellan trails in a Democratic runoff against 37-year-old Rep. David H. Pryor after missing a first ballot victory. McClellan, noted for chairing a probes panel, stressed seniority and broader aid for Arkansas, while Pryor campaigns as a defender of the elderly with nursing home legislation. Historically, incumbents struggle in runoff elections in the state.
Week long training for tot lot and playground staff begins Monday with 9 am sessions. The playground training, led by Carl Balvant and Nat Hull, meets at River Side Recreation Center 1115 C Street SW with directors and wading pool personnel attending. Tot lot trainees convene 1 pm Monday at city hall offices of the recreation commission. Dr. Robert H. Conner an obstetrician filed a $125000 suit in Ross California Superior Court seeking to prevent a neighbor's monkey from bothering his wife. He alleged the animal jumped on her back and nipped her shoulder on May 20 and has troubled his family and friends for about three years.
The All-Iowa fair will host two magic performances by Mark Wilson and two Zacchini cannon acts on July 3 and 4. Fireworks, rock ets and ground pieces will light up the sky over the amphitheater with free seating and reduced midway ride prices. The 37th annual event runs June 30 to July 10 with Kidsday July 3 featuring races and matinee shows.
