Guardsmen Tank Crashes Through Bridge Near Iowa City
A 19 ton National Guard tank carrying four men fell through a wooden bridge three miles south of Iowa City as it crossed on a Sunday morning. All four guardsmen escaped unharmed. salvage begins Monday. The bridge carried 10 tons and would cost about 2500 dollars to replace.

Morris Studer Rider Killed in Mechanicsville Crash
Morris Studer 46 of near Mechanicsville died when the car he rode in overturned on the Morley road at 1:25 a.m. The driver, John Koppenhaver of near Mechanicsville, escaped with minor injuries. Studer's wife was injured and taken to Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids, condition described as good. Survived by four children Dale 20 in Texas, Betty Lee 18 in Des Moines, Donald 15 and Darrell 4 at home.

William C Zuber aged 64 died Sunday after a heart attack. He headed the Middle Amana farm department for four decades and was a lifelong resident. Four men bound a night watchman in a downtown Des Moines building and blew a safe at Henry Methlie and Son jewelry, escaping with about $10,000 in cash and jewelry. Watchman Charles Cross, 55, said two robbers met him as he ascended the stairs Sunday night. A $5,000 diamond necklace and several watches and rings were among the loot.
