Indian Leader Hurt in Scuffle With BIA Police
Russell Means AIM leader is recovering after being shot in the abdomen during a scuffle with a Bureau of Indian Affairs policeman. The BIA calls the shooting accidental and says Means was wounded when Lt. Pat Kelly's pistol discharged. Means supports that the shooter was Kelly’s son, not Kelly. He faced earlier federal charges linked to Wounded Knee and is free on bond on an accomplice murder charge.
