Grain Belt Has Enough Water for Now
Washington reports that the nation’s grain belts have adequate water for the moment but the Florida Everglades and the Southwest remain severely dry. Southern Florida suffers its worst drought with less than normal rainfall, nearly 16,000 acres burned recently, and Everglades ecology threatened. Texas faces severe to extreme drought in about three quarters of the state as heat and winds raise fire risk. Iowa’s spring started dry, but recent rains partially revived seed crops.
