J. N. Milroy of Vinton won the Republican nomination for state representative from Benton county, upsetting incumbent R. O. Burrows of Belle Plaine by 88 votes and outdistancing Walter E. Leo of Dysart by 376. Milroy led 785 to 697 with Leo at 409. On county tickets, Robert M. Dewey beat Robert Cranston for coroner by 920 to 648, Jay W. Nabholz won the supervisor nomination with 683 votes, and incumbent Glenn Detrick was renominated with 1,109 to 552. Milroy plans overseas travel and aims to revisit World War I sites.

Mt Vernon voters will decide on a 350000 school bond in a July 7 election set by the school board. About 340 signatures were filed, though 100 were required. The plan allocates 268000 for an elementary school, plus funds for remodeling, equipment, and a bus barn. The building would sit between the old and new highways on a 30 acre site bought with bond money. Polls open 8 am to 8 pm CST at Mt Vernon city hall.

Four Way Junction Stop Urged at Mt Vernon
The Mt Vernon Lions Club unanimously urged the Iowa Highway Commission to install a four way stop at the intersection of highways 30 and 261 south of Mt Vernon. A recent collision at the new intersection on the highway 3 cutoff prompted the action. Currently north south 261 traffic is halted while east west 30 traffic can pass.

A move to consolidate three rural districts into Coggon failed as only two districts approved.
