Boyd named interim leader of University of Michigan
Former president Boyd, 75, will become the 13th and first woman president of the University of Michigan on Aug 1. Regents expect the search for his successor to stretch into late 2000 or early 2008. Newlin, who spoke with nine regents, said Boyd's appointment will likely receive unanimous approval at the June meeting in Ames. Boyd previously led UI from 1969 to 1981, later presiding over the Field Museum until 1996 and returning to UI Law in 1996, where he teaches and bears his name on the building.
