Deadline Nears for 1977 78 Homestead Credit
City Assessor Dale Piersall said about 5 000 eligible homeowners have not signed up for the homestead credit for 1977 78. The July 1 deadline also applies to the additional veterans exemption. The exemption amount is not yet known. Historically the homestead credit reduced taxes by 62 50 dollars. Tax bills will reflect a 4500 dollar first valuation exemption on residential property. The 1976 legislature enacted the change but Gov Ray vetoed the second and third years of that tax bill.
