Two Shooting Deaths in Cedar Rapids Ruled Murder Suicides
The Cedar Rapids shooting deaths of Adaline R. Rose and C Richard Hanson on Friday night were ruled murder and death by own action. Rose, 47, of 419 Crimson Drive NE, and Hanson, 51, of 5810 Pleasant Drive SW, died at 9 30 p.m. at Rose's residence after Hanson allegedly shot Rose with a handgun and then killed himself. Rose had worked as a saleswoman for John J Zacharie and Co Realtors and left two daughters and a mother and siblings. Hanson was a real estate agent for United Inc and left a son, parents, and a sister. Services are pending.

Cedar Rapids man drowns in canoe mishap at Lake Machride
Owen L. Beery, 29, of Cedar Rapids, died when his canoe capsized amid high winds on Lake Machride Friday afternoon. Beery's son Charles was saved by Ron Wheeler, 30, of Cedar Rapids, who helped retrieve the child. Beery owned Holland Bakery and was a lifelong Cedar Rapids resident. His body was recovered Saturday morning after a debris search. Services set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Murdock Chapel in Marion with Rev. Glen W. Lamb officiating.
