New York City Faces Payroll Shortfall on Payday
NYC faces a $132.9 million debt load with an $89.1 million payroll and only about $71.3 million in net cash. Officials expect upfront property tax receipts to cover a portion, with mayoral sign-off possible to deposit funds and avoid bounced checks for 330000 city payrolls. The plan hinges on $100 to $140 million in prepaid taxes and must also cover a $41.6 million teachers payroll due Monday.
