Landmark planting of genetically altered corn seeds in Linn soil
Genetically engineered corn seeds were planted outdoors Monday in Linn County by two Plant Science Research Inc. staff at a half acre plot two miles southwest of Mount Vernon. The field test uses a marker gene to track inheritance, with containment measures including a 50 foot buffer and detasseling to prevent pollination. APHIS will inspect plots this summer.
