Boy Injured as Car Hits Crossing Near Garfield School

Witness Gary McClure said a traffic signal helped save the boy by keeping the front end raised as the Knuckle vehicle hit a building corner. Walter Hartl said his son, a left handed fourth grader who hoped to be a crossing guard and enter the soap box derby, suffered a fractured right arm and facial sores but is improving. Neighbors blamed an outdated crossing system and one way street for recurring crashes near Center Point Road, where Slayman Murray noted multiple accidents and car parts left on the street. A charge for failure to yield at a stop or yield intersection was filed against Knockle.
