A six member arbitration panel granted a 4 percent wage increase in two steps for about 40,000 railroad engineers, with a 2 percent rise July 1 and another 2 percent March 1, 1961. The decision sets a pattern for up to 760,000 related workers. fringe benefits stay in effect and a 15 cent an hour wage cut was rejected.
Washington AP report says Michigan Gov. Williams backed Kennedy at Mackinac Island, likely swaying 51 Michigan delegates toward Kennedy while Rockefeller campaigns in the Farm Belt for Davis. AP tally shows Kennedy with 33 9 1/4 committed votes of 761 needed. Rockefeller seeks impact, Nixon unopposed, Johnson gaining momentum with a Citizens for Johnson drive. Humphrey praises Stevenson but stays noncommittal. page continuation noted.

Washington UPI reports Senator Thomas Martin and his wife Dorris reappeared on the personal staff in early 1960. She served as an assistant clerk earning 1100 a month, totaling 3344 for January to March, following prior payroll entries including 2951 for October-December 1959.
Paula Hitler, Adolf Hitler's sister, died in Berchtesgaden at age 64. She had lived since 1945 on a small pension in the old house where she passed away, preferring the name Paula Wolf.
William M. Blair Jr. was sent to France to press Paris Presse correspondent Robert Boulay to write a new story or retract a prior piece on Adlai Stevenson’s foreign policy views. The Boulay interview, printed in translation, portrays Stevenson favoring mutual concessions on atomic tests and German questions, raising doubts about his presidential bid and potential cabinet role. Boulay’s reporting, delayed in Paris and published after his return, is considered damaging to Stevenson’s image and prospects.
Walter Sector, nine, survived in northwest Manitoba after a May 18 plane crash that killed his father Steve Secor, 39, and friend Ken Harrison, 32. A helicopter crew found him near Tartan Lake after a long search covering about 70,000 square miles. he drank rain water and ate roots, while a supply package nearby went untouched.
White House called Khrushchev's unification claim absolutely untrue and said no comment on personal slurs. Anne Wheaton noted Camp David talks may have occurred but dismissed Khrushchev's summary as false. Senators Gore Mansfield and Johnson criticized the attacks as unhelpful and inflammatory.
In Jericho New York Stephen Fox unearthed a metal box while clearing a field. Money totaling more than 70000 dollars spilled out wrapped in brown paper. Fox lives in Hicksville and has debts on his home and bulldozer. Owner Arthur Shodnek planned industrial use for the site and urged police involvement. Nassau County Lieutenant Austin Attwell counted the money but withheld an exact total pending claims and proof.
Cedar Rapids haircuts rise to $2 starting Monday after a joint vote by the Master Barbers Association and Journeymen Barbers AFL CIO at the labor temple. LeRoy Kleppien cites higher operating costs and living costs as the reason. Children’s cuts increase to $1.75.
Moscow reports Khrushchev attacked Eisenhower and warned nuclear retaliation could follow spy flights. He said Nixon would be the better U S partner if a wise partner is unavailable, ridiculing Eisenhower and Dulles while outlining disarmament plans and R ussia’s readiness to act if Western planes violate its airspace. He stated Russia would join an open skies system only when disarmament measures are implemented. He outlined a plan to abolish foreign military bases ban the launch of special devices into outer space and restrict transmission of nuclear weapons.
Moscow reporte says Premier Khrushchev has accepted an invitation to visit Cuba. The time of the visit will be agreed on later, according to TASS News Agency.
