Giants of the Mississippi Sturgeon and Trophy Walleyes Caught
In Pool 4 south of Red Wing Minnesota Randy Randall and I chased post spawn walleyes and battled large Mississippi River fish over two days. We landed a 40 pound lake sturgeon about 50 inches long after a long, tense fight, plus 10 legal walleyes, several pike and bass. The sturgeon is protected in Pool 4, while the trip highlighted the river’s bounty and ongoing recovery of lake sturgeon populations.
