The Flatyards raise six children with strong communal and faith roots. Steve and Sandy emphasize honesty, cooperation, responsibility, and respect, teaching by example through chores, neighborly acts, and family meetings. They balance independence with guidance, even during travel and difficult choices.
Steve and Sandy Flatgard, aged 42 and 39, raise four children on a Solon area farm. Steve works as a district trainer for Servpro after selling his Cedar Rapids franchise. Sandy supports the family and books for Steve. Children are Nathan 16, Jensina 13, Jessica 12, and Lucas 9 attending Prairie schools.
