Women Seek Fairer Delegation Balance At Iowa Caucus

Delegates face a fresh challenge as women hold only two of ten spots and push remedies via the national credentials committee to secure more female delegates. Virginia Morton proposes replacing Bill Fenton with Sister Marilyn Huegerich while Marlene Petersen seeks four more female delegates and three more alternates, or reconfiguring votes and seats among the uncommitted group. The effort cites the 1970 census showing women as 51.4 percent of Iowa’s population and asserts past caucuses discouraged women’s participation amid irregularities.
