DAS IV solar plans face scrutiny to replace DAEC
In 2020 NextEra shut down the Duane Arnold Energy Center, now promoting Duane Arnold Solar IV. The 220 MW facility would occupy 1460 acres and produce about 480 000 MWh annually, far below DAEC’s output. At $0.095 per kWh, DAS IV would bring $45.8 million yearly, less than DAEC’s payroll and last full-year income. DAS IV would employ 1–2 people, pay $7.7 million in property taxes over 25 years, and add $1.9 million annually to Iowa, far short of DAEC’s $255 million annual economic contribution.
