CDC to offer seasonal flu shots to farmworkers this fall
The CDC launches a $5 million initiative to vaccinate about 200,000 livestock workers in bird flu hot states. The plan aims to curb co exposure to H5N1 and seasonal flu, reducing reassortment risk. Thirteen farm workers have been infected this year with mild symptoms, nine on Colorado poultry farms.

Board settles with nurse accused of impairment
The Iowa Board of Nursing settled a case against Austen Harras a 42 year old Des Moines nurse admitting impairment while working in a hospital emergency room He received one year probation on the nursing license while facing a related first offense operating while intoxicated charge The incident began November 23 2023 when Harras was cited for speeding and later flagged by Ringgold County Hospital staff as impaired at Mount Ayr Authorities reported tests showing zolpidem detected in urine but fentanyl negative On May 7 2024 Harras remained employed by Unity Point Health with trial scheduled for Sept 11 the criminal case pending
