Pulkrabek cites crowding as a long term jail issue with rising inmate on inmate and inmate staff assaults. Overflow prisoners have been housed at Linn County Jail Cedar Rapids at 60 dollars nightly, costing 565000 last fiscal year. Since Memorial Day average 110 inmates daily with 23 housed elsewhere.
Harney says the General Services Administration and the Iowa City school district are open to trading Sabin's second floor near Mall Drive while district offices occupy the first floor.
