Go software far more complex than chess says Go masters
San Francisco The New York Times notes Go, a 3000 year old game, is deemed far harder to program than chess by developers. Hewlett Packard engineer David Fotland argues Go requires modeling human thought, as the 19x19 board and 361 intersections yield about 10 to the 761st power of possible moves versus 10 to the 120th for chess. The International Go Congress offers a 1.3 million prize for a winning Go program.
