NewBo Market vendors struggle after departure
Since leaving NewBo City Market in 2013, Christopher Oekter’s bakery and cafe faced dwindling visitors and near closure due to limited menu changes and lower foot traffic at a new Marion site. Tatyana Kieler’s Russian dishes shop closed in Cedar Rapids and moved to Hiawatha, selling roughly $10,000 of market equipment. Sydney Rieckhoff of The Chill reopened as Great American Popcorn Store. NewBo traffic helps with three days a week business gains.
